There's a better word for what I am: an apatheist.
It's a neologism that fuses "apathy" and "theism." It means someone who has absolutely no interest in the question of a god's (or gods') existence, and is just as uninterested in telling anyone else what to believe.

Lost Another Friend
My old friend Dougal left us. He was a fine old Aussie gent who went down the river with me a bunch of times. His health had been bad over the past couple of years, but he never lost his dry wit. I'll miss you, buddy.
I'm willing to bet you would have gotten along with him. He was a math professor who beat me at chess and pool routinely. And he could tell a dirty joke with the best. Thanks for the 'net love.
I'll always remember playing Hold'Em with him. The one time (and one time only) I ever held a Royal Flush (in spades) and went all in and took the table.
Dougal proved that, statistically, I would never hit a Royal Flush again in my life, and since we were only playing for chips and not $$$, he bought me a cold one to celebrate.
Sorry for the loss of your friend. He looks like someone who added much to life.
ReplyDeleteThe passage of a life is always sad. Like DCup said, he looked like someone who lived.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss, Pygalgia. It's hard when we start losing friends. I've lost a few in the past few years too.

Those were the days.
