How NOT to Turn 50

Sorry that posting got delayed. I celebrated my 50th by slipping on an icy hill, breaking my shoulder, and spending 4 days in the hospital. I don't recommend this. I hope to tell more of the story soon, but this left-handed typing sucks.

So sorry to hear that Pygalgia! Hope you're feeling better. You're the second person I know who broke their shoulder after slipping on the ice - a friend from work did the same thing over the holidays.

Ouch. And I thought my torn calf muscle was painful. Maybe so, but RICE is nothing like 4 days in the hospital :-(.

I wish you speedy healing, my friend. I know exactly how you feel right now. I went through it two years ago, with the added bonus of three broken ribs a a broken clavicle, and pinched discs.

I sent you a little something to help defray comic books, sports magazines, that new rafting gear, or something frivolous like defraying your Hospital bill. It ain't much, but, I try and do better in two weeks.

I posted about this at my place. I hope others help too.

Damn, man.

At my place, we don't get snow.

I think we have some decent rivers to run, here, in boring, cracker, West Tennessee.

Offer is always open.

MF told me about your accident. Hellava birthday present. Get well real soon.

Now I'm spooked...I turn 50 in a few weeks and its been snowing here off and on.

What happened to those quick reflexes we used to have back in '77 when we were chasing girls in Farrah Fawcett hair?

NO. You got it wrong. For 50 you are supposed to meet an heiress, go skiing in the Alps, and pop champagne in Paris. It's 60 where you fall down and break something.

So sorry to hear about your aerobics in the snow, Pygalgia. Patch comfortably and fast!

David, the fumes from all the chemicals needed to maintain every feathered strand of that Farrah Fawcett hair in its proper place undoubtedly built up in our bodies and has eroded our reflexes to the point where I don't go out on ice and snow without a carbide-tipped walking stick (or two). Getting older sucks, doesn't it? Too bad the alternative is worse...
