A Nice Clean Bomb

Oh joy, Russia has built a newer, bigger bomb:

According to Gen Alexander Rushkin, the Russian deputy chief of staff, the new bomb is smaller than the MOAB but much deadlier because, due to nanotechnology, the temperature at the epicentre of the blast is twice as high.

"Test results of the new airborne weapon have shown that its efficiency and power is commensurate with a nuclear weapon," he said.

"The main destruction is inflicted by an ultrasonic shockwave and an incredibly high temperature," ORT added.

"All that is alive merely evaporates."

Despite its destructive qualities, the bomb is environmentally friendly, Gen Rushkin said.

An "environmentally friendly" bomb? What's not to like?

Nanotechnology? Hmmmmm.

The U.S. GBU-43 (also known as the Mother Of All Bombs) has about 8500 kg of explosive H6 I believe.

I'm assuming that the new Russian bomb is roughly of the same design as the U.S. bomb, so I'm wondering where this "nanotechnology" breakthrough is taking place.

It is interesting to note also that they dropped it from a Tupolev to drop it. Currently, I think only our C-130 Herc can drop ours; one of which is in Iraq, but was never used (out of 15 or so).

The Russians have a habit of baffling with bullshit. Most likely this is like pretty much everything else in their technological barrel -- just a revised version of an old Soviet-era design. The Russians don't do anything new nowdays, they just polish the old Soviet stuff and make it incrementally better.

Ah, the ol' atomized particle explosion! I remember that from my days as a little anarchist. The idea is to atomize a quantity of fuel and ignite it. The increased surface area of the fuel makes for one heck of a boom! Whee! They used one in the movie Outbreak. My understanding is that the vacuum can suck your lungs out through your mouth. Nummy!

And yeah, eco-friendly warfare? Why not: "Smallpox: The All-Natural Way to Eradicate Populations".
